The Faktaassistenten project is managed by a team of scholars in the Department of Journalism of Södertörn University, which is a public university located in Flemingsberg in Stockholm County, Sweden. The journalism department of the university is renowned for being the largest department teaching journalism in Sweden. Below are the team members that are involved directly in the Faktaassistenten project.

Prof. Gunnar Nygren, Project Leader

Gunnar Nygren is a professor of journalism at Södertörn University in Stockholm. He specializes in local journalism, fact-checking, data journalism and professional roles of journalists as well as changing journalistic practices. He started his career as a journalist and then moved into academia where he contributed to the field of journalism by publishing extensively in the aforementioned areas and has been involved actively in promoting better fact-checking practices in the Swedish context.


Dr. Walid Al-Saqaf, Lead Developer

Walid Al-Saqaf is a senior lecturer in media technology and journalism at Södertörn University in Stockholm. He has a bachelor degree in computer engineering and PhD in media and communication studies. His interests revolve around media technology, fact-checking, freedom of expression, blockchain and Internet studies. He started his professional career as a journalist in his original home country Yemen and have since then worked on journalism and technology project by levering his dual competence in software development and journalism research.


Dr. Urban Larssen, Principle Researcher

Urban Larssen is a senior lecturer in journalism at Södertörn University. He has extensive experience in social anthropology and has done considerable research in the development of journalism in the post-socialist Romania. He has developed strong interests in cross-border investigative journalism.
